Business-value framing

V3.0 ties practices to business outcomes more explicitly than V2.0. In appraisal terms: it's not enough that a practice exists — the team examines whether it serves performance. Prepare evidence that connects practices to results, not just compliance.

New domains

The model now spans Development (DEV), Services (SVC), Data (DATA), People (PPL), Safety (SAF), Security (SEC), Supplier Management (SPM), and Virtual work (VRT) — visible in the current Lead Appraiser authorizations in the CMMI Institute partner directory. If your organization works in data, safety-critical, or distributed contexts, V3.0 likely covers you better than V2.0 did.

Updated credentials

Instructor and Lead Appraiser certifications track V3.0 domains. When vetting a partner, confirm their credentials are current-version — stale V1.3-era materials are still floating around the web.

Practical impact
